South Africa's picturesque city of Cape Town and the surrounding areas of the Western Cape have become a popular destination for travelers from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. People find that Cape Town provides an excellent place to experience a taste of the African continent, and it serves as a base of operations for exploring the natural wonders, game preserves, vibrant culture, and landmarks of this nation. There are few places in the world where a nation is so engaged in remembering the legacy of its past and building a better future for its people.

To understand these unique dynamics and go beyond superficial sightseeing, travelers need a private guide like Clive De Bruyne's Cape Town Tour Guide Company to enhance their experience here. Clive’s company is small enough to handle individual sightseers and couples, and large enough to serve tour groups. He has three comfortable vehicles that seat up to eight passengers. More important, the company has four other certified guides on its team who are available to provide services and handle customer needs.

Tours, Sites and Activities

Clive De Bruyne provides guide services, vehicle transportation, and day trips for cruise visitors in Cape Town and the surrounding regions of the Western Cape and the Garden Route. The company can help with all the guests’ arrangements, starting with transfers between the airport and local hotel and continuing with personal driving and guide services to other destinations and sites throughout the Western Cape and Garden Route. The company also coordinate tours to other popular destinations such as the major capital city of Johannesburg, the Kruger National Park, or the spectacular Victoria Falls located in Zimbabwe and Zambia. Booking safari lodges and suppliers in other regions or across the border in Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe is another service that the company provides.

The most frequent tours selected by guests visit the top of Table Mountain, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the Cape of Good Hope, the home of the African penguins at Boulders Beach in Simonstown, and the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. But there are no limits on the creativity of the tours made available to guests. As described by Clive: "We design every program from scratch. All our tours are customized around the client's preferences and interests. We are all about finding high quality experiences rather than box ticking sightseeing. We put authenticity back into hospitality and want our visitors to feel like they are part of our family and that they leave as our genuine friends."

As a result, the activities which have been arranged as part of guests’ tours have included hiking the hills around Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, riding ostriches, ziplining over an indigenous forest, flying over the Victoria Falls, attending sports events at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium, and attending a traditional South African outdoor grill known as a braai in a nature reserve or on a remote and picturesque beach.

Background and Experience

Clive De Bruyne has been working as a tour guide for over 20 years since he was 22 years old. Ironically, he first became interested in the field while working in London. After taking an overland tour all the way home to Cape Town, Clive decided that "I loved the experience and knew immediately that I had a passion for touring that I had to pursue." In addition to receiving a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Cape Town, Clive became certified as a high school educator and received a postgraduate certificate in higher education from the University of Cape Town. He is qualified and certified as a South African tourist guide, a hiking specialist, and a South African specialist.

Clive believes there are many special things about South Africa that people can learn from a visit here. "Besides the incredible natural beauty of the countryside, the people are what makes the place special. You will be reminded that the human spirit is what life is all about. In African philosophy, there was something called Ubuntu which states that the sense of self is shaped by your relationship with the people around you. Simply put Ubuntu means 'I am' only because 'we are'.

My Family's Experience

Working closely with Clive, my family developed an outstanding itinerary for visiting Cape Town, interesting places around the Western Cape, and other South African locations. We combined seven days of touring around the city with a twelve-day cruise visiting other South African destinations. In this way, we were able to experience fully the wonders and culture of the country during our visit.

Our entire experience with the Cape Town Tour Guide was exceptional for six reasons:

  • Knowledgeable Guides- Both Clive De Bruyne and Kyle Burger, the experienced guide assigned to handle most of our tours, are knowledgeable about the history and culture of South Africa, the best wine estates to visit, hotels and restaurants to book in and around the city, local customs, and everything else you need to know as a visitor.

  • Excellent Logistics- They managed all the logistics for our trip in a timely and thorough manner. All details were handled professionally such as getting advance tickets for key attractions and events prior to our arrival, greeting us at the airport and bringing us to our hotel, and helping us file for a VAT refund at departure. You rarely have to wait in line or walk a long distance to a site. They know when to go to popular spots, how to avoid the crowds, and where to stop for pictures.

  • Individualized and Flexible Itineraries - Each day’s itinerary was developed and refined to match our preferences rather than following a script like on some group tours. Hikes to Green Point Park and Kloof Corner, a private appointment at a specialty retail store, and a family outing to a sold-out rugby match were just a few of the enjoyable stops added to our daily schedule.

  • Guide Referrals for other Locations -Clive recommended guides for us to use for four distant ports on our South African cruise and we had good experiences using them for private excursions in those locations.

  • Value- The charges for transportation, five full days of guide services, and admission to all locations were included in our tour price and were reasonable for the high level of services provided.

  • Friendship- Both Clive and Kyle were pleasant and considerate people to spend time with. Our experience was enhanced by mutual storytelling about our countries, families, and the special experiences we had in South Africa. We left knowing lasting friendships were formed along with treasured memories.
